AUTHOR: Pixies Petals TITLE: Spring Cleaning in the Floral Design Workshop DATE: 12:03 PM ----- BODY:
This past weekend I decided to embark on that journey that everyone loves, known as Spring Cleaning. I decided it was time to gear up for the coming wedding season. I also really dislike working in a cluttered space. I had a bunch of stuff collected from the weddings of 2009 and it was time to organize. Now I will present to you the new improved Pixie's Petals.

Here are the photos of the "shop" as well as a few of the creations I made this weekend....

For those of you who are unaware I'm currently working out of a workshop in my home. My hope is to have a small studio space somewhere in Long Beach or North Orange County by 2011.

I have an upcoming Wedding at the Jones Victorian Estate in Orange County, a perfect setting for a vintage wedding. The bride wanted to use unique vintage containers and I suggested Milk Glass. She loved the idea so I have been hunting at garage sales & Thrift Stores for the past few weeks.

I now have quite a few pieces ... take a look.
I Love the different variety in the patterns.

I will be doing a mock up in the next couple of weeks...until then I will leave you with some inspiration from the internet...

This is from a Soolip Wedding.. love the Milk Glass against the black and white table cloth !!

Image is from the knot...All White weddings are defiantly back in a big way !!

This post is from an event I had a chance to do in early February. It's taken a bit longer than hoped to get the photos posted here in the blog. I was honored that Jessica Elizabeth Photography came out on such short notice to help capture the look and feel of the event. There are too many beautiful photos for me to post them all here, but here are some of my favorites. If you are looking for a great Wedding Photographers...Look no further !!

I also want to say a special thank you to Chasity of the El Dorado Event center.
What a lovely Venue for a Long Beach Wedding. Thank you for asking me to be a part of this event !

I created three of these as well as three different bouquets on Saturday
for Sundays Romance on the Water at the Dana Point Yacht Club.
Which is a great location to have your next event, It just recently opened up
to non-members for special events.

Car is all loaded up with flowers & ready to go !!

This is what the final vision looked like. I shared a booth with the lovely
Kerry Pulverman of de Luxe Weddings & events. Who is an excellent event coordinator, if you are looking for one in the Orange County area.

The set up began at 8am and we finished just after 10am just in time for the show.
Thanks for taking the time to read this....due to a lack of time during the setup
I did not get as many photos as I would have liked.
Hopefully next event I will be able to get a bit more of the whole
process start to finish.

----- -------- AUTHOR: Pixies Petals TITLE: Ever Wonder Part 2 - 4:30 am - Flower Market Shopping DATE: 6:19 PM ----- BODY:

Here is my collage from this mornings 4:30 am jaunt to the Los Angeles Flower District. You can click on the images above to enlarge them. This is just one of the many steps in getting fresh beautiful Floral Designs to your wedding or special event.

Typically your first step is to make a shopping list and prep and fill your buckets the night before you go Shopping.

BTW Even though I wasn't a morning person when I became interested in Floral Art. I am now, first I have no choice but second of all I love it. One of my favorite things to do in the morning is be in the flower market taking in all the fresh flowers that just arrived from the local California Growers,as well as the shipments from overseas. Places like Colombia and Ecuador as well as the Netherlands. The colors and smells, there is no better inspiration than having such a wide selection in one place and figuring out new ways of combining things to make new creations.

Back to the subject at hand I usually arrive at the market at 5am and start shopping. I head to the suppliers first in case I need to get any floral hard goods such as floral oasis foam, ribbon or vases I may need prior to your event. After that I always take a moment to look around at the different vendor's to see who has the freshest and healthiest looking flowers along with the best prices. I make my purchases and head back to my car to deposit all the Roses, Hydrangea, Tulips and Ranunculus required for me to complete the event I'm working on. At about 7 am I'm on the way back to the workroom to clean and process the flowers. It depends on the amount of flowers but after the drive back to Long Beach I'm usually ready for a nap by about 10 am. Depending on the day of your event and the quantity of arrangements I will start arranging that evening or the day following.

That's it for this segment. My next segment will feature some of the arranging as well as the setup and delivery. For now will leave you with a photo of all the processed flowers and my new helper Molli.
